Glimpse

Here is an example of the new jobs being created in America. Looks like the worst is pretty much over after all. I know of some prime ocean front property for sale here in Alberta too. Real cheap.

How about paramedic? Nurse? Mortician? Not green jobs but necessary. Thinking on the nurse thing myself. You want to be useful in our Brave New World don't you?

I agree, but wtf is the Army National Guard doing in the prison guard business? And I can`t help but wonder if the advertising/hiring is focused on racial divides. It sure seems so.

When I first heard about the Wackenhut buses roaming the deserts and the Fema facilities in the same areas, I visited Wackenhuts site and found out just who they hire (not civilians usually) and who they contract out to. The job posting link brought it all to mind so I wasn't surprised. I don't know when the line was crossed in actuality and it is a line that should never have been crossed at all.

What doesn't surprise me is the racial divide you mentioned ( I assume that you caught on because it was a Hispanic site?if not then what did you see?). In Chicago, the Board of Education has been targeting minority areas in which they place military academies for high schools. They claim that this is not a recruitment effort but an "opportunity" for an alternative education that serves the "interests" of the local, underserved population who may be looking for feasible ways to go to college for example or for discipline (read as joining an approved alternative gang) and parents buy this, the leadership of ethnic populations be they Hispanic or African American or whatever support it and encourage it. It is presented just like the Army ads, as an elite sort of thing.

Now that Arne Duncan, ex Chicago Board of Ed puppet is our national secretary of education, you can imagine what is going to happen all over this country and how militarization of ethnic populations is going to intensify.

Cripes!

Yep, it was the ad`s location that got me wondering about the re-emerging racial divide. That and how easily the title of racist is being handed out to people who are concerned with Obama`s cabinet and actions.

Well, being ethnic myself, I can tell you that the racial divide never went away. The issues with Obama are just a national public confession of bigotry and ignorance. Not all Americans are racist but many are as you have seen yourself.
I know many African Americans who are well educated, well spoken, professional, courteous, (all the good qualities we hope to see in humans) who still face horrific attitudes on a daily basis in their personal lives.
As an example, I recently befriended a woman at the garden and she told me she was shocked when I came up to talk to her like she wasn't a woman of color. I asked her what she meant. She said she was used to being looked over first in suspicion (Like "what is a woman of color doing in a community garden?") and then looked over completely ("oh she is a woman of color who gardens, how quaint").
It is easy to forget that the struggle continues for many.

Another example. A young Hispanic woman I know wanted to become a pathologist hopefully for the FBI. She went to her high school counselor to find a couple of colleges close by with the program and the idiot counselor kept telling her to go for nursing! The girl was very upset so I found her the colleges myself. It was as though the counselor somehow figured that the girl couldn't make the cut based on her race. The girl felt that what was expected of her by the counselor was that she would become a young single mom and so nursing was attainable. It was a huge insult to her as a human being with huge potential.

The recruitment thing too-there are activist groups working against the bombardment on ethnic minorities here in the states. Its a known fact that recruitment among those groups is often successful due to poverty and lack of viable opportunities for affordable education among other things... Shame on the community and that website for buying into that.

I sure appreciate hearing your stories and the information you share, Linda.

Race issues have been with us for a very long time, and I know they will likely be with us for some time to come...should we last that long. It just drives me crazy to see it being emphasized in order to create political distractions and enmity when we should be working together to focus on bringing down those who create this crap, and on fixing our world and our souls.

linda said...

I agree. Personally though, while we should be working together as you say,I don't think it is feasible. It looks like people in general prefer diversion to reality for one thing....

Jerry said...

I wonder if that preference is the case so much in Europe and other places tho. At least I hope that we are making slow progress.

linda said...

Hard to say but I would say too that in other countries, politics is part of life. Dialog on the topic is anyhow....or so it seems from this side of the fence.
Slow progress? I see it but its the minority population that has made this progress.
